Woo, goin' west on the Mountaineer! It appeared to be that or a morning switcher, so I am very pleased.

Here's hoping it's a quick trip, with a short layover.

Did you have to get it out of the ramps?

Yeah, out of ramp 3. There was maintenance equipment at the west end of the brewery spur. And oddly enough, the electric lock switch at the west end wouldn't open, so we had to back out down the fast track. I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong, or if it's actually broken.

And apparently, we had Reba McIntyre (however you spell it), on board the Rocky. We extended an invitation through the tailend carman for her to ride up in the cab, but she never showed.

It was a pretty good trip all told, we got half an hour of heldaway and brought 114 back, so it was fast. We left Field at 2333 and hit Sunalta at...oh hell, 0350, something like that.

Another lay over ten hours. This has to be another of our new management strategies since it seems like noone is ever in Field for less than 10 anymore. I like a rest out there as much as the next guy but it gets to the point where you're spending 40 hours per week at the AFHT. It's just unnecessary. Although, I suppose the lay would have been about two hours shorter if you were on a train other than the ol' Rocky. My dad and I refer to the train as the "Jerk Mountaineer" colloquially. Remind me to tell you why sometime.

That switch up there only opens if equipment is within a certain distance of the points, no more, no less. That train being stuffed in there where it doesn't belong thanks to the errant ES machine probably contributed to your difficulties. The odd time that I have to go to P1A the same thing happens to me. First I stop too far away, then I get the engineer to back up closer which of course puts us TOO close.... Why they don't just rip those damn things out of there I have no idea. A regular lock seems to work just fine everywhere else.
