Ee-yeah. I mean, it was a colony, and a relatively small one at that - three hundred thousand - but they were innocent. And there's a point where you can choose to warn them or call for pickup from the Normandy, but even if you choose to warn the colony, the villain cuts you off before you can do anything, just to hammer the point home.
It turns out to be necessary, as the Reaper invasion was literally minutes away, but...yeah. Ouch.
